Blackwood was founded in 2012 on one conviction: that the best spaces — hotels that guests return to, restaurants that fill up without advertising, homes that families grow into — are all built from the same starting point. Not a style. A material.
We begin every project by asking what the land allows, what the local craft tradition offers, and what natural light does to the space at the specific hour when it will matter most.

We visit the site before we open a drawing file. Understanding land, light, orientation, and local context is not pre-work — it is the work.
The first decisions: how does the building meet the ground? How does natural light enter the primary spaces? What materials does the site and the brief demand?
Space by space, material by material. Coordinating structure, services, landscape. Bringing in specialist craftsmen and artists where the design calls for it.
